about them. In other words, this page answers the question, "What are those ribbons on his/her shoulder for?"
The following awards are described herein:

The Honor of SunDragon
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Honor of SunDragon. It may be given by the Baron/ess to
those people who have toiled in service to the Barony, or otherwise
have excelled in merit. The holder of this award shall be entitled to
place after their names C.H.S.D and shall be styled Companions of the
Honor of SunDragon.
- The insignia of the Order shall consist of ribbons colores
of the rainbow in the Baronial Arms, which shall be pinned to the left
shoulder by members of the Order.
- Ribbons will be awarded by the Baron/ess, the first
being Gules, and following through the SunDragon Rainbow colors, (Argent,
Azure, Or and Purpure) with full Companionship being awarded with
the purple ribbon.
- Full Companionship in the Order will be awarded at
the pleasure of the Baron/ess after consultation with the other full
members of the Order.
- The Order shall take precedence equal to other Baronial
service awards but before simple Awards of Arms; higher precedence shall
remain unchaged, but a person of lower level shall rank from their elevation
unto the Honor.
- The Coronet of the Barony of SunDragon shall carry the
title of Principal of the Honor of SunDragon, and shall have all rights,
duties, and priviledges of Companions of the Order.
- The person(s) first elevated unto full Companionship shall
bear the title of Premier of the Honor of SunDragon.
- Amendments to this Order shall be made by the Principal
of the Order, after consultation with the Crown.

Commander of the Honor of SunDragon
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Commander of the Honor of SunDragon. It may be given by
the Baron or Baroness to full Companions of the Honor of SunDragon who
have demonstrated high merit and continued service and duty to the Barony
of SunDragon and its populace.
- The insignia of the Commander shall consist of a medallion
depicting the Baronial Rainbow and displaying the ribbons in the colors
of the Baronial Arms and shall be worn on the left shoulder. Bearers
of this award may signify their name with the initial CHSD.
- Commander of the Honor of SunDragon can be conferred no
more than twice annually at the discretion of the Baron and Baroness
after consulting with members of the Order. Their Excellencies should
consult with Companions of the Honor for the initial nominee(s).
- A candidate for the Commander must be a Companion of the
Honor of SunDragon fully five years prior to their nomination.
- Commander of the Honor of SunDragon shall take precedence
over other Baronial service awards and over simple Awards of Arms. Higher
precedence shall remain unchanged.
- The Coronet of the Barony of SunDragon shall continue
to carry the title of Principal of the Honor of SunDragon and shall
have all rights, duties and privileges of the Commander of the Order.
- The person(s) first elevated unto the Commander of the
Order shall bear the title of Premier of the Commander.
- Amendments to this Order shall be made by the Principal
of the Order after due consultation with the Crown of Atenveldt.

Dragon's Fury
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Order of the Dragon's Fury. It may be given by the Baron
and/or Baroness to those people who have displayed excellence in the
fighting arts, both in the use and the teaching of the Weapons of Society
for Creative Anachronims, Inc.
The Holders of this award shall be entitled to place after their name E.D.F.
and shall be styled Esigns of the Dragon's Fury.
- The Insignia of the Order
shall consist of Aiguillerttes for each of the four levels of the Award.
The first level, known as
Trooper, shall be designated by a single cord of red. The second level,
known as Corporal, shall be designated by a single cord of blue. The
third level, known as Sergeant, shall be designated by a single cord
of gold. The full award, known as Ensign, shall be designated by a
braided cord in the colours of the Award. All members of the Order shall
display
their insignia on the left shoulder.
- Aiguilettes shall be awarded by
the Baron and/or Baroness, after consultation with the current Ensigns.
- The
Order shall take precedence equial to other Baronial fighting awards,
but before simple Awards of Arms. Higher precedence
shall remain unchanged, but a person of lower precedence shall rank
from their elevation unto the Order.
- The Coronet of the Barony shall
carry the Title of Captain of the Dragon's Fury, and shall have all
rights, duties, and privileges
of Ensigns of the Order.
- The person(s) first elevated unto Ensign shall
bear the Title of Premier Ensign of the Order of the Dragon's Fury.
- Amendments
to this Charter shall be made by the Captain of the Order, after due
consultation with the Crown.

Dragon's Scales
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Order of the Dragon's Scales. It may be given by the Baron/ess
to those persons who have excelled in the Arts in the Barony of SunDragon.
The holders of this Award shall be entitled to place after their name
CDS; and shall be styled as Companions of the Order of the Dragon's
Scales.
- The Insignia of the Order shall be jewels coloured as
the rainbow in the Barony Arms, which shall be displayed on a white
ribbon.
- Jewels will be awarded by the Baron/ess, the first
being gules and following through the SunDragon rainbow colours,
(Argent, Azure, Or, Purpure) with full Companionshp being awarded
with the purpure jewel.
- Full companionship in the Order will be awarded
at the pleasure of the Baron/ess, after consultation with the
other full members of the Order.
- The Order shall take precedence equal to the other Baronial
Arts Awards, but before simple Awards of Arms; higher precedence shall
remain unchanged, but a person of lower level shall rank from their
elevation unto the Order.
- The Coronet of the Barony of SunDragon shall carry the
title of Principal of the Dragon's Scales and shall have all rights,
duties and privileges of Companions of the Order.
- The person(s) first elevated unto full Companionship shall
bear the Title of Premier of the Dragon's Scales.
- Amendments to this Order shall be made by the Principal
of the Order after consultation with the Crown.

Dragon's Heart
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Order of the Dragon's Heart.
- The Order of the Dragon's Heart may be given by the Coronet
of SunDragon to individuals who have shown the worthy qualities of courtesy
and courtly behavior with such consistency that they are recognized
to be an example of gallantry to all.
- The insignia of the Order of the Dragon's Heart shall
be, subject to the College of Arms, a medallion depicting the badge
of the Order of the Dragon's Heart, blazoned thusly:
[fieldless] A heart gules charged with a rainbow,
proper.
- Bearers of the Order of the Dragon's Heart may place the
initials D.H.S.D. after their name.
- This Order shall carry precedence after the Order of the
Dragon's Fury.
- Amendments to the Order of the Dragon's Heart Charter
shall be made by the Coronet of the Barony of SunDragon after due consultation
with the Crown of Atenveldt.

Rainbow's Promise
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an award
known as the Order of the Rainbow's Promise.
- The Order of the Rainbow's Promise may be given by the
Coronet of SunDragon to individuals under sixteen years of age who are
a radiant example of the promise of the Dreame by their efforts in the
many aspects of the Society, which may include arts, service, the fighting
arts, and who display a good knowledge of the courtly graces.
- The insignia of the Order of the Rainbow's Promise shall
be, subject to the College of Arms, a medallion depicting the badge
of the Order of the Rainbow's Promise, blazoned thusly:
[fieldless] A rainbow surmounted by a sprouted
acorn, proper.
- Bearers of the Order of the Rainbow's Promise may place
the initials R.P.S.D after their name.
- This Order shall carry precedence after the Order of the
Dragon's Heart.
- Amendments to the Order of the Rainbow's Promise Charter
shall be made by the Coronet of the Barony of SunDragon after due consultation
with the Crown of Atenveldt.

Baroness' Cavaliers
There shall exist, in the Barony of SunDragon,
an order known as the Order of the Baroness' Cavaliers which may be given
at the pleasure of the Baroness to members of the populace of SunDragon
who have demonstrated all of the following qualities:
- Exceptional skill and chivalry in combat with the
weapons of the duello. Duello shall be taken to refer to rapier combat.
- Knowledge of the Courtly Graces, such as music, dance
and other gentle arts.
- Obedience to the laws of the Society for Creative
Anachronism, the Kingdom of Atenveldt, and the Barony of SunDragon.
- Consistent, courteous and noble behavior.
- Authenticity in dress, equipment and behavior, in
keeping with their chosen "Persona".
- Show a willigness to share their knowledge and skills
with others.
Holders of the Order shall be entitled to place after their names the
letters B.C.S.D. and shall be styled and announces in processions as "Holder
of the Barron's Cavalier of SunDragon".
Selection of a member to the Order shall be made by the Baroness, after
consultation with holders of the Order.
The award shall be given by the Baroness at an official S.C.A. event.
The insignia of the order shall be: a
lozenge-shaped pin bearing the initial of the presenting Baroness.

Rainbow's Gold
There is a checklist available
for those interested in putting themselves forward as candidates for the
Rainbow's Gold. There is also a mailing list available for this Order and its candidates.
- There shall exist in the Barony of SunDragon an
award known as the Order of the Rainbow's Gold. It may be given
by the Baron/ess to those persons recognized by the other members
of the Order as having completed the requirements necessary (see
below).
The holder of this award shall be entitled to place after their name
CRG and shall be styled Companions of the Rainbow's Gold of the Barony
of SunDragon.
- The Insignia of the Order shall be a single gold
coin.
- The Order shall convey no precedence.
- The Coroney of the Barony shall carry the title
of Principal of the Rainbow's Gold, and shall have all rights, duties,
and privileges of Companions of the Order.
- The person(s) first elevated unto Companion of
the Order shall bear the title of Premier of the Order of the Rainbow's
Gold.
- Amendments to this Charter shall be made by the
Principal of the ORder, after consultation with the other members
of the Order.
The following is the requirements of
the Order of the Rainbow's Gold.
- Combat
In order to accomplish this section the candidate will demonstrate various
skills at arms. There are two ways to accomplish this.
- The first is to fight in a heavy weapons
tourney. This must be an official tourney.
- The second way will
call upon the candidate to complete the following:
- Find a suitable member of the Order
that is commonly accepted as an accomplished heavy weapons
fighter.
- The candidate should pledge to this
individual for a period of time to serve as a retainer. In
return the candidate will learn to wield a weapon and hold
a shield.
- The candidate will then, before three
members of the Order, proceed to don a suit of armor and demonstrate
the uses of armor, sword, and shield again an armored opponent
who will not strike back. (This allows those who cannot fight
for various reasons a chance to learn to defend themselves
in the fashion of a medieval warrior.)
- All candidates will identify the various
machines of war.
- The candidate will elaborate on the fortifications
of the period. This will be accomplished by designing a fortification
on land, on terrain which has been designated by one of the
members of the Order.
- The candidate will demonstrate a knowledge
of Society weapons, combat, armor, and rules of combat.
- Heraldry
To demonstrate a knowledge of heraldry, the candidate must:
- Blazon his own device and have it painted
on a shield (if a fighter) or worked into a banner. The device
must have been submitted to the heralds for registration.
- The candidate must be able to identify
at least three out of five of the arms of the prominent knights
in his area.
- The candidate will be able to answer about
basic heraldry:
What are:
- Tinctures, Metals, Furs?
- Basic field divisions and charges based on those
divisions?
- Dancing
To demonstrate the candidate's dancing ability, the candidate shall be
required to perform:
- A basic Pavan or other period dance.
- A basic Bransle: double, single, or gai
burgundy.
- A mixed Bransle: Montarde or other.
- A mimed Bransle: Washerwoman, Peas, etc.
- One other
- Games
To demonstrate the candidate's ability with games, the candidate must
be able to set up a chess board, identify the pieces and describe the
moves. The candidate will play at least ten (10) moves. The candidate
will further name five (5) other games of the Middle Ages and play
one other.
- Calligraphy
Candidates for this Order must submit a scriven petition requesting permission
to apply for this Order. The petition will be written in a medieval
hand and illuminated to the best of the ability of the candidate.
- For the Pleasure of Others
To demonstrate the candidate's knowledge of music and literature, the
candidate will submit two (2) of the following:
- Write a fable, poem, morality play, or
story of chivalry. Language should be approximate courtly speech
(no slang) and entries must be typed or scriven. You may recite
your entry before the populace or present it for recitation
by a minstrel.
- Write a ballad, round, or simple song
in the spirit and style of the Middle Ages. Entries must be
presented in a ready to perform format or must be performed
by the candidate.
- Perform a piece of period music and supply
written documentation for same, at time of performance.
- Recite from memory a period poem, fable,
story, or play (the latter in consort with others) for the pleasure
of the populace.
- To research, document, and exhibit a period
art or craft.
- Courtly Behavior
Each candidate shall be assigned a mentor (the candidate may request
a particular companion of the Order or one will be assigned) to aid
in the instruction of the candidate in courtly behavior and SCA customs.
The candidate will also be observed by members of the Order during
the time he/she is working to complete the other requirements of the
Order.
- Know Thyself
To demonstrate the candidate's knowledge of the Middle Ages, the candidate
will be questioned by a panel with respect to persona. The candidate
will need to know such things as: What period of time he/she is living
in, where, activities of daily life, politics, religion, clothes, food,
etc.
- Service To Others
The candidate will act as either an officer or a deputy for a period
of six (6) months beginning from the time they declare themselves as
a candidate, or they shall act as a autocrat or co-autocrat or shall
instruct three classes on different subjects in the College of SunDragon
at some time during the period they are working for the Order.
All of the above requirements will be signed as witness to the fact
that the candidate did complete them to the satisfaction of the members
of the Order and for the advancement of chivalry.
